Until It Thunders is a collective of rural punks and leftists dedicated to equipping our communities with the knowledge and tools to push back against authoritarian and extremist movements. We aim to provide educational tools, practical guides on rural community development, homesteading skills, and direct-action strategies for organizing and activism. Our goal is simple: help people bring positive, lasting change to their hometowns.

Why ‘Until It Thunders’?

The name comes from an old wives’ tale about snapping turtles. Legend has it that when a snapping turtle bites, it won’t let go “until it thunders.” Like the snapping turtle, we hold firm to our principles, refusing to let go in the face of adversity. We also see the snapping turtle as a fitting symbol—often dismissed as a nuisance, yet essential to the health of its ecosystem. These creatures are resilient, durable, and relentless hunters, including their appetite for snakes—a symbol that’s now closely tied to far-right movements. They may be slow-moving, but when threatened, they strike with precision—and so do we.
